Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQ's

  • How does a solar electric system work?

Photovoltaic (PV) Systems use the sun’s energy to make electricity. PV cells produce direct current electricity by collecting electrons freed by the interaction between sunlight and the semi-conductor materials in a PV cell. This electricity is run through a power inverter and changed from DC to AC electricity that will help power your home or business.

  • How big of a roof do I need?

This varies based on the size of your system. System sizing is determined by the size of your household, the amount of electricity you use, how much sun you receive in your area. A-C Solar also offers high efficiency options for maximizing small roof areas.

  • Do my solar panels have to face south?

Solar electric systems produce best when facing south, but west and east facing solar panels can also produce enough electricity to see significant savings in electricity costs.

  • Are the solar panels and inverters warrantied?

Both the inverters and panels come with a 10 year factory warranty on workmanship, operation and production. In addition, the solar panels have an additional 15 year production guarantee, assuring at least 80% output of the rated value until the 25th year.

  • Should I re-roof before installing solar?

This all depends on the condition of the existing roof. A-C Solar has roofing partners that can provide an evaluation of your existing roof.

  • What if my roof is shaded?

A-C Solar can provide a detailed evaluation of your roof to determine if the shading effect is unfavorable to solar. We also offer a micro inverter solution, giving each solar panel its own inverter. This allows shaded panels to have as little effect as possible on system production.

  • How much maintenance is required?

Solar panels require a hosing every few months to maintain maximum performance.

  • Will I have power during a blackout?

No you will not. Solar inverters are built to shut down automatically during a power outage. This protects utility workers who are repairing the electrical lines from an accidental electrocution.

  • Can my panels withstand high winds?

Solar panels and the mounting systems that they attach to, are designed on a system by system basis to withstand the wind loading of your particular area. In addition, your local building department reviews your system design to determine wind loading accuracy.

  • What are the benefits of a PV system?

A PV system eliminates or reduces the amount of electricity you purchase from your utility company. Excess electricity generated can be fed into the electric grid, earning you financial credit towards your bill. Additionally, you are helping to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases released into the environment.

  • Will my PV system take the place of my utility company?

The most common PV systems work in conjunction with your local utility. The connection to your utility allows for “storage” of the excess electricity, through financial credits, to be applied to times when the system is not producing electricity.

  • Why is solar energy better for the environment?

Your system helps the environment by reducing your carbon footprint, now, and for years to come. It doesn’t give off carbon dioxide emissions, which translates to cleaner air. Unlike fossil fuels, power from the sun won’t run out. And it’s free! In addition, you reduce the amount of noise pollution in the environment as a whole because your system is completely quiet.

  • Why Choose A-C Solar?

After determining that a solar generating system meets your financial goals, our design team works to bring concept to reality. Whether your needs include a roof mount, ground mount, solar carport, stationary or sun-tracking system, every detail is integrated into our design to maximize quality and operational efficiency while minimizing installed cost. Since A-C Solar is not bound to any specific manufacturer, we can engineer a system that is optimized to meet the specific needs of each home or business. • Where are A-C Solar panels and inverters made?

Because A-C Solar is not bound to a single manufacturer, we offer panels and inverters from USA, Germany, China, and Japan.

  • How much power can a single PV module produce?

The average PV module produces about 200 watts of power. However depending on the type of panel and manufacturer, a single panel is capable of producing over 300 watts of power.

Financial FAQ's

  • How much will my solar system cost?

This varies depending on a variety of different factors. The size of your household, the amount of electricity you use, how much sun you receive in your area, and available government funding are only some of the factors that will determine the cost of your system. Each potential installation needs to be evaluated for accurate costs and financial payback.

  • Are there rebates and financing available for me?

Yes! The rebates and savings vary by city, but we’ll do the work for you. Once we decide what system works for you, we’ll find out which rebates apply and make sure you receive the maximum discounts available. Check out our rebates and financing page for more details.
